Potholing
WLG provides safe and accurate potholing and utility exposure services for public and private clients. With decades of experience in excavation safety, utility verification, and traffic control operations, WLG delivers reliable data that reduces risk and prevents costly redesigns.
WLG employs hydro and air vacuum excavation systems adaptable to a range of soil conditions. Fully equipped trucks are supported by skid-steer, grinder (cold-planer attachment), hot box, vibra plate for compaction, and traffic control arrow board. Each exposure is documented with pipe material, size, and depth, along with tabulated reports, sketches, CAD files, and photographic records. After exposure, WLG restores sites using proper backfill and either hot or cold patch materials, based on agency requirements. All work is completed in compliance with City, Caltrans, and Greenbook standards. Staff certifications include 40-hour HAZWOPER, NUCA Competent Person Training, Confined Space Entry, OSHA 30-hour, Traffic Control Technician/Flagger, and Emergency First Aid/CPR.
This integrated approach combines proven excavation methods with survey control processes, ensuring agencies receive precise, georeferenced data to advance projects safely and confidently.

Projects
vacuum excavation
WLG provides safe and accurate vacuum excavation services to expose and verify underground utilities for public and private clients. Using hydro and air vacuum methods supported by coordinated traffic control and surface restoration, the team delivers reliable field data that reduces risk and supports informed project decisions.
Design & Construction Support
6TH STREET POTHOLING SERVICES | CORONA, CA
WLG is currently providing potholing services for the City of Corona’s 6th Street project to support the installation of a new 12-inch waterline. WLG’s crews are filling 43 potholes along the alignment using in-house traffic control plans. Each pothole is restored with native backfill, and the asphalt core is permanently bonded back in place to ensure compliance with City standards. In support of this work, WLG is also performing utility locating with electromagnetic and GPR methods and collecting spot elevations at pothole locations to integrate into the project’s aerial and topographic survey deliverables.
CHINO PARKING FACILITY PHASE 1 & 2 | CHINO AIRPORT | CHINO, CA
WLG is providing potholing services using vacuum excavation to safely and accurately expose existing underground utilities in support of a municipal infrastructure project. WLG’s in‑house crews perform potholing under approved traffic control plans, restoring each location with native backfill and permanently bonded asphalt to meet agency standards. Utility locating using electromagnetic and ground‑penetrating radar (GPR), along with spot elevation collection, supports accurate subsurface data integration into survey and design deliverables.
traffic control set-up
WLG implements professional traffic control set‑up to support utility exposure and excavation activities within active roadways and public rights‑of‑way. With experienced crews and agency‑compliant practices, the team delivers safe, efficient traffic control operations that protect the public, support field crews, and keep projects moving forward.
STREET & LANDSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS
SOUTH WENDY DRIVE AND GREYROCK STREET | THOUSAND OAKS, CA
WLG provided vacuum excavation services to support utility verification within an active roadway. The scope included traffic control set‑up to maintain safe vehicle and pedestrian access while excavation activities were performed. Traffic control operations were coordinated to minimize disruption and ensure compliance with applicable roadway safety requirements. Non‑destructive vacuum excavation was used to expose existing utilities, followed by surface restoration in accordance with project standards.
WESTLAKE BOULEVARD | THOUSAND OAKS, CA
WLG implemented traffic control set‑up and potholing services to support landscape improvements along Westlake Boulevard. Traffic control operations were coordinated to maintain safe vehicle and pedestrian access while work was performed within the public right‑of‑way and center median. Non‑destructive vacuum excavation was used to expose and verify existing underground utilities, with findings documented to support project coordination and safe construction activities.
SUBSURFACE UTILITY ENGINEERING
WLG delivers subsurface utility engineering services to identify, map, and verify underground utilities in support of infrastructure and development projects. Through a combination of utility research, field investigation, and verification methods, the team provides accurate subsurface information that reduces risk, improves coordination, and supports informed design and construction decisions.
STREET & UTILITY IMPROVEMENTS
GARBANI ROAD | MENIFEE, CA
WLG performed subsurface utility engineering services to support street and drainage improvements along Garbani Road. Services included utility research, field investigation, and targeted utility exposure to verify the horizontal and vertical location of existing underground infrastructure. The SUE effort was performed to reduce utility conflicts, support design coordination, and improve constructability within a constrained roadway environment. Non‑destructive vacuum excavation was used to safely expose utilities and confirm critical attributes, with findings documented to support engineering and construction decision‑making. The work was coordinated with project stakeholders to maintain safe operations within the public right‑of‑way. This project reflects WLG’s integrated approach to subsurface utility engineering, combining investigation, verification, and documentation to minimize risk and support successful project delivery.
SOUTHWEST SUBSTATION EXPANSION | ANAHEIM PUBLIC UTILITIES | ANAHEIM, CA
WLG performed subsurface utility engineering services for the Southwest Anaheim Substation project to support design coordination and construction planning. The scope included utility research, field investigation, underground utility locating, and targeted potholing to verify the location and characteristics of existing subsurface infrastructure. Terrestrial LiDAR scanning and topographic mapping were used to supplement field data and identify potential utility conflicts across the site. Deliverables included detailed mapping and annotated exhibits to support informed decision‑making, reduce subsurface risk, and provide accurate site information for project development.
WLG in Action
Every project depends on knowing what lies beneath the surface. WLG’s potholing crews combine advanced excavation methods with strict safety practices to expose utilities and provide reliable data for informed decisions.
